How To Overclock Monitor – The Super easy Guide

Many people don’t yet know the process of how to overclock monitor because mostly experts or technicians use this procedure. The purpose of overclocking your monitor is the same with overclocking our processors. Overclocking the monitor or processor helps you to get better performance. By overclocking your monitor, you simply increase the refresh rate beyond the stock rating. It helps your computer to draw more frames per second on the screen to increase the quality of performance.

Most of the time, you don’t need to do it, but sometimes, you can try this to increase performance quality. Here we are going to give you all the details about overclocking a pc monitor. First of all, you need to know a few basic things, for example the refresh rate.

    • What is refresh rate?

In simple words, refresh rate helps to increase the speed of your computer. It is basically the number of times an image shows up on the monitor per second, and for that, it needs to be regenerated every single time to prevent any flicker or disturbance. If we simply put it, a 75Hz monitor refreshes 75 times in a second, a 60Hz monitor refreshes 60 times in a second, and a 144Hz monitor refreshes 144 times in a second.

The more it refreshes, the better performance and speed it provides. Gaming PCs need more refresh rates usually than normal computers to provide better visuals. We usually receive better refresh rates than we can actually see with our eyes, which is around 24f per second.

Every monitor has different functions. So now the question is very normal: Can any type of monitor do it or not? Here we are going to give the answer to it too.

Mostly, it depends on the type of panel you have. Your monitor can look exactly identical to another monitor, but that doesn’t mean both of the monitors can do it, because, they can look the same but might have different display panels. So, it might not work on your monitor, while it can increase the speed significantly of an identical-looking monitor.

There are many examples of people overclocked their monitors from 60Hz to 75 Hz. So it depends on your situation and the type of control panel you have. But for that, you need to know the methods of how to overclock monitor properly, else your purpose will not be served as expected.

Now, it’s time to discuss the main aspect of this article – how to overclock monitor.

    • How to overclock monitor?

The process of overclocking your monitor is quite simple. When you know the proper methods of how to overclock monitor, you can perform the task in two ways according to your convenience. There is a third-party tool named CRU, you can use it for overclocking your monitor, or you can also use software from AMD, NVIDIA or Intel. Both processes are free, and here, we will talk about every process individually.

How to overclock monitor by using CRU?

CRU stands for Custom resolution utility. This is one of the older methods which people have been using for a long. So, it is a well-proved method, but the system has changed drastically in the last few years. It may not work well with GPUs or integrated Intel graphics, but if you have AMD graphics, then it can provide better results. At first, you have to download it.

    Step 1 – Open CRU.

Step 2 – There, you will see a couple of boxes named detailed resolutions and standard resolutions.

Step 3 – You have to click add under detailed resolution.

Step 4 – Now click on the timing option and change it to LCD standard.

Step 5 – Now, change the refresh rate manually. You can change it 5Hz more than the standard value.

Step 6 – Work is done. Click on Ok.

Step 7 – Now reboot your PC.

For the next stage, you need to overclock the refresh rate in your Windows 10.

Step 1 – Right-click on the desktop with your mouse and choose the display settings option.

Step 2 – Now select the advanced display settings option.

Step 3 – By scrolling down, you will get the option named display adapter properties, click on it.

Step 4 – Now time to click on the desired refresh rate on the monitor tab.

If this procedure worked for you, then the monitor won’t go black after selecting the higher refresh rate than usual. If it turns black, then that means it didn’t work on your monitor, and it will go back to the previous settings after 15 seconds.

Step 5 – Click save, and reboot your computer to make it work.

Here we discussed two methods which you can use to change the refresh rate of your computer or overclock your monitor. These procedures are very simple, and almost everyone can do it now at home by following these steps easily. Other than these methods, we also have two systems called the NVIDIA control panel and by using software from Intel. Those two also consist of the same procedure with the AMD Radeon settings.

These are proved methods to some extent to provide better performance but not 100 percent risk-free. For example, when we overclock our processors, we do it at our own risk. It’s quite the same for the process of how to overclock monitor, and you have to do it at your own risk. Sometimes it is worth experimenting, though for better performance.

Our advice is not to go overboard at the first attempt. Start by increasing the minimum refresh rate at first, for example; only increase 5hz at first. If it works, then you can increase it gradually.
