What Can You Expect from 5nm Based Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC?

This year’s recent and most talked about technical launch Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 Soc is making rounds among the techies. The new silicon chip has made its tough appearance by completing the fast-growing technology in the world. After analyzing its technology, one can without any fail say that this new flagship is here to boost the technological world. The upcoming mobile phones and games of 2021 will surely have smooth functioning with the help of this silicon design. From improving the CPU performance to boosting up the GPU and ISP, this new flagship is here to go big from the time its users are going to start using it.

Now, looking at Qualcomm’s previous chips like Snapdragon 875, 865, 855, and 845, the very noticeable aspect is the Chinese company’s constant use of number 8. Without fail this time too, the company has come up with its new franchise of number 888. Well, the consistent use of 888 is because the Chinese consider the number 8 as a lucky number! Since the Chinese market has the world’s largest base for smartphones, so obviously this chip is going to boost the performance of all the smartphones and devices, especially from the Chinese market.

How Snapdragon 888 is Superior to Snapdragon 865

Coming to the most awaited part of the chip’s features, we are going to draw a comparison between Qualcomm’s previously released 800 series processor, Snapdragon 865, and the newly announced Snapdragon 888. With all the current flagships coming with 865 and 865+, what we can expect from the all-new Snapdragon 888?

    CPU

    The CPU IPs by Arm of its previous model was 1 x Cortex – A77 with 2.84GHz 1x512KB pL2, 3x Cortex- A77 with 2.42GHZ 3x456KB, and 4x Cortex –A55 with 1.08GHz 4x128KB pL2. This chip contains a 4MB L3 cache for the CPU cluster. On the other hand, the latest processor has 1x Cortex – X1 @2.48 HGZ 1x 1024 KB pL2, 3x Cortex –A78 @2.42GHz 3x512KB pL2 and 4x Cortex – A55 @1.80 GHz 4x128KB pL2. This chip too continues to have a cache a 4MB L3 cache for the CPU cluster.

The processor’s new X1 core comparing with 865’s Cortex-A77 promises a 30% uplift in the performance of IPC. The X1 and ARM’s A78 core completely focus on performance, power, and area (PPA). It claims to improve CPU performance to a great extent. Cortex –A78 increases the working capacity of the CPU for most computational work by 2.5HGz. Moreover, the processor also promises larger memory, so that the users can keep using it without worrying about the usage and size. Hence, all the gamers have a great scope with this processor.

    GPU

The new Snapdragon 888 promises an uplift of 35% in the GPU performance. This is possible again because of the newly built Cortex A78 which simply boosts up the efficiency of the CPU. Moreover, the GPU of Snapdragon 865 has an Adreno of 650 while Snapdragon 888 has an Adreno of 660. Apart from an uplift of 35% improvement in the GPU performance, the latter in general performs 20% from the former one. In order words, this particular chipset is not going to give you a hard time, with graphics-intensive tasks.

    Camera/ISP

Snapdragon’s previous version had a dual camera with 14-bit Spectra 480 ISP while the latest version has a triple camera of 14-bit Spectra 580 ISP. The processor emanates spectacular camera quality with three rear cameras which allow its users to record with three different focal points. The quality of the camera is influenced by 4K 10 –bit video at 30fps. Lastly, the camera will be able to capture about 2.7Gpix/sec.

    Modem

This Qualcomm has decided to come with an integrated modem absolutely contrary to 865 which did not come with a modem at all. The company has built a modem of X60 subsystem which is 5G design marking Qualcomm’s 3rd generation design. It comes with both 4G and 5G connectivity making it easy for the users to switch networks depending on the area in which they are. Moreover, the X60 modem is supported by sub-6GHz 5G and mm Wave 5G. These features brilliantly compliment 5G sims too.

    Final Takeaway

Although the condition of 5G networks is still to come to full swing, hopefully, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 is designed to complement the network. Overall, the process is the next generation process which comes with multiple smart features. So, in the coming year, we can all expect some of the most high-performing smartphones of our times.
